Restoring Health and Hope for Women & Girls

By Simachew Yigzaw | Executive Director

Summary of Progress since last Report

In our previous "Zero Report" submitted in April 2026, we shared that despite having no donations through GlobalGiving, we had begun preparations using our own limited resources. We are pleased to report that we have continued to make progress-still without project funds-by mobilizing volunteers, strengthening local partnerships, and expanding community outreach.

As of this reporting date, no donations have been received through GlobalGiving for this project. However, we remain committed to transparency and to keeping our supporters informed, as required by GlobalGiving’s reporting guidelines.

Activities Completed Without Project Funds

Using existing organizational resources and volunteer support, we have achieved the following since April 2026:

  1. Expanded Beneficiary Identification

o   We have now pre-registered 3,200 women and girls (up from 2,450 in April) across Bahir Dar, Gondar, and Gorgora who meet vulnerability criteria (displaced, low-income, no health insurance).

o   All data is anonymized and stored securely to protect privacy.

  1. Strengthened Partnership Agreements

o   We secured two additional letters of intent from local healthcare providers in Gondar zuria, Bahir dar and Gorgora, bringing the total to four partners ready to enroll beneficiaries once funds are available.

  1. Community Awareness and Feedback Sessions

o   Conducted five community dialogue sessions (total 210 participants) in Bahir Dar, Gondar, and Gondar zuria.

o   These sessions explained the health insurance scheme, gathered feedback, and ensured community input in program design.

o   All photos taken were consent-based, positive, and dignity-affirming, in line with GlobalGiving’s Community Photo Standards.

  1. Staff and Volunteer Training

o   Trained 8 community health workers (up from 5) on how to assist beneficiaries in using insurance cards and navigating local clinics.

o   Developed a simple pictorial guide in Amharic to help low-literacy beneficiaries understand their insurance benefits.

  1. Local Fundraising Efforts

o   Launched a small local campaign to raise awareness and attract community-based support.

o   Engaged two local businesses expressing interest in a matching gift opportunity once the project gains momentum on GlobalGiving.

Challenges

The primary challenge remains the lack of dedicated funding. Without the requested $180,000, we cannot pay for health insurance premiums, which is the core activity of this project. We continue to share the project link through our networks and social media, but donor traction on GlobalGiving has not yet materialized.

Other challenges include:

  • Limited internet access for some team members, slowing down digital outreach.
  • Economic hardship in the region affecting local fundraising potential.
  • Ongoing recovery from conflict, which makes community needs more urgent.

Looking Ahead

We remain hopeful that the GlobalGiving community will recognize the urgency and impact of this project. Once we receive even partial funding, we will:

  • Immediately enroll the first cohort of beneficiaries.
  • Begin paying insurance premiums for the most vulnerable women and girls.
  • Provide regular updates with stories, photos, and data on enrollment and health outcomes.

We are also exploring a small matching opportunity with a local business to incentivize giving once the project gains visibility.

Photos

We are not uploading new photos with this report because no funded activities have taken place yet. However, we have included positive, consent-based images from our community awareness sessions in previous reports. As soon as we have images of enrollment or health center visits, we will include them in future reports.

Donor Acknowledgment

We deeply thank any future donors who will help turn this plan into action. Your support will directly restore health and hope to women and girls who currently cannot afford a doctor’s visit.

We also thank GlobalGiving for the opportunity to remain part of this global community and for your continued guidance.
