In our previous reporting period (April 02, 2026), we mentioned that Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organization (WEWE) has raised a total of USD$10,355.505 from 124 donations for health insurance for 124 widows and orphans over the past five years. The main goal of WEWE’s project hosted on the GlobalGiving website is to raise USD$50,000 to provide health insurance for 200 widows and orphans in Abuja, Nigeria, to access healthcare services.
During this reporting period (April 02, 2026 – July 28, 2026), WEWE mobilized N283,942.74 in private community donations, which is equivalent to $207.25 at an exchange rate of N1,370 to USD 1 on Thursday, July 23, 2026. These contributions enabled us to enroll six (6) beneficiaries into a health insurance scheme, each at a premium of N47,323.79, ensuring they receive essential medical care for their various health conditions.
WEWE has now successfully enrolled 128 widows and orphans into health insurance schemes, made possible through USD 10,562.76 received from 125 individual donations over the past five years. Therefore, WEWE has now successfully reached 64 % of our targets.
Among the beneficiaries is a 19yearold pregnant teenager, now nine months along, who is also a survivor of genderbased violence. Through the support of our donors, she can finally access safe, dignified, and continuous healthcare.
Below are the names of the six (6) beneficiaries who have been enrolled in the health insurance scheme for this reporting period.

WEWE has also secured a significant opportunity from the FCT Health Insurance Scheme (FHIS) to facilitate the enrolment of 3,000 vulnerable individuals under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF)—a Federal Government initiative that provides free primary healthcare to Nigeria’s most vulnerable populations. Under this arrangement, FHIS will cover the annual premium of 22,500 (USD 16) for each beneficiary.
Enrolled individuals will access essential healthcare services at designated Primary Health Care Centers (PHCs) and may obtain referrals to secondary health facilities when needed, subject to FHIS approval. This partnership positions WEWE to dramatically expand healthcare access for thousands of underserved residents in the FCT.
Conclusion
During this reporting period (April 02, 2026 – July 28, 2026), private donations enabled WEWE to enrol six additional beneficiaries—including widows and a pregnant teenage orphan who is a survivor of genderbased violence—into the AXA Mansard Private Health Insurance Scheme. These contributions provided them with immediate access to safe, reliable, and dignified healthcare at a critical moment in their lives.
WEWE has now successfully enrolled 128 widows and orphans into health insurance schemes, made possible through USD 10,562.76 received from 125 individual donations over the past five years. Therefore, WEWE has reached 64 % of our targets.
Through sustained advocacy with the Nigerian government, WEWE also secured 3,000 free annual health insurance slots from the FCT Health Insurance Scheme (FHIS) under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF). This is a major breakthrough that will expand healthcare access for thousands of vulnerable people.
However, enrolling these beneficiaries requires substantial logistical and administrative support. Many widows and orphans lack basic documentation such as a National Identity Number, email address, or phone number. As a result, the cost of mobilizing, identifying, and processing each beneficiary is higher than the insurance premium itself. Without donor support, thousands of eligible beneficiaries may be unable to access the free healthcare now available to them.
WEWE therefore continues to appeal to GlobalGiving donors to help us bridge this critical gap. Your contributions directly enable us to reach undocumented widows and orphans, complete their enrolment, and ensure they receive the free health insurance they are entitled to.
