YRS' Mobile Clinics Continue to Deliver Better Sexual and Reproductive Health and Smiles!

Mobile Clinic in Singaraja, North Bali
Mobile Clinic in Singaraja, North Bali

Thousands of Balinese women living in rural areas of the island have extremely limited access to reproductive and sexual health services. In order to increase their access and to improve their lives and communities, almost every weekend YRS travels to these areas to conduct Mobile Clinics, where they deliver Pap tests, HIV/AIDS and STI tests, breast examinations, counselling, treatment, education materials, as well as general health check-ups.

All YRS staff contribute to the Mobile Clinic services, which are for the entire community, not only for women (though women of reproductive age are the demographic accessing the services the most). The day before a Mobile Clinic, YRS staff prepare the equipment, supplies, medicines, forms, brochures and information materials. Mobile Clinics are usually conducted in a community centre. The local community leader and their staff prepare the space as an ad hoc clinic. About one week before, they will inform the community of the Mobile Clinic, and help to promote it.

Mobile Clinics start at around 7am. YRS staff are responsible for client registration, conducting general check-ups and examinations, screening for reproductive health problems, and providing education materials. Usually around 120 clients attend each Mobile Clinic.

Mobile Clinics have been conducted in Desa Banjar Sekar Singaraja and Desa Kaliasem Singaraja in North Bali, Gubug Tabanan in West Bali, Susut Bangli in Central Bali, and Desa Intaran Sanur, Kedonganan and Renon in South Bali. The first Mobile Clinic was conducted in August 2013 in Denpasar. Until December 2014, YRS rented cars to conduct the clinic services, but in January 2015, with the support of the Australian Consulate General, YRS purchased its own car. This made delivering reproductive and sexual health services to rural Balinese women much easier.

Through its Mobile Clinic services, YRS is able to reach thousands of more Balinese women, and improve their health, their lives, and their communities. This is the number one goal of YRS, and the Mobile Clinics help to achieve this.

All staff at YRS would like to give a very warm and appreciate TERIMA KASIH to all our wonderful donors and supporters. You are helping to create a healthy generation of women!
