Dear Donors,
Thank you for your kind support for our Health Coverage for Widows and Orphans in Need project. Your donations have helped us continue working toward providing healthcare for widows and orphans living in underserved communities in Nigeria.
In our previous report, we shared that beneficiary data capturing and registration had been delayed because many of the people selected for support live in rural and hard-to-reach communities with poor road access.
Following further discussions with the selected Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), we learned that because the current number of beneficiaries is small and their communities are difficult to reach, the HMO team will not be able to travel to these locations to conduct the required data capturing and enrollment.
Rather than allow this to prevent the beneficiaries from receiving healthcare, we have decided to take medical care directly to them.
Our team of medical doctors and nurses will organize a mobile healthcare visit to the communities where the widows and orphans live. During the visit, our medical team will conduct basic health assessments, check beneficiaries for common illnesses, provide medical consultations, and give appropriate treatment and medicines based on each person's medical needs and the resources available.
This change will allow us to reach beneficiaries who may find it difficult or expensive to travel to hospitals or HMO enrollment centres. For some of the widows and orphans, bringing healthcare to their communities is currently the most practical way for them to receive medical attention.
We are now preparing for the mobile medical visit and hope to share photos, beneficiary information, and details of the healthcare services provided in our next report.
We also hope to receive more donor support. More funding will allow us to purchase medicines and medical supplies, cover transportation and field expenses, and reach more widows and orphans who currently have little or no access to healthcare.
Thank you for standing with these families. Your support is helping us find a way to bring medical care to people who might otherwise go without it.
Sincerely,
Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
