In Ethiopia's crisis zones, mothers are giving birth without medical care, youth are succumbing to preventable diseases, and trauma remains untreated. Conflict has destroyed health facilities, displaced millions, and left young people vulnerable to poor health and exploitation. Through Healing Horizons, FUGAO will bring life-saving mobile clinics, trauma recovery services, and health education directly to those who cannot reach a hospital. This holistic approach-combining physical health.
Pressing Problem Over 1.1 million displaced people in Ethiopia have no regular access to healthcare. Maternal mortality in crisis zones is 3x higher than the national average. 1 in 4 children in displacement camps suffers from acute malnutrition. Mental health services are nearly nonexistent for trauma-affected youth.
Our Solution This 4-year project will: Operate 8 mobile health clinics with skilled medical teams. Deliver maternal care, vaccinations, and nutrition programs. Provide trauma counseling and psychosocial support. Train youth as health ambassadors in their communities. Establish safe spaces and WASH facilities to improve health outcomes.
Expected Long-Term Impact by 2030 50,000 women and children access essential health care. 10,000 youth and mothers receive trauma recovery support. 200 trained community health workers sustain services post-project. 20 displacement camps equipped with clean water and WASH facilities. 5,000 youth trained as peer health educators.
