Health and education for children in Chiapas

Dear donors,

This year is going to be one of big emotions at Melel Xojobal.

The reason?

We are celebrating our XX Anniversary, twenty years giving our best in order to improve childhood nutrition and their rights to identity and education.

We started this year, as every time, with hard work, but now, the excitement of turning 20 years old, give us more energy and a positive mindset in order to do the best job we can. We want to thank you for being with us in this collective walking.

Last year was pretty good:

1. Early stimulation and nutritional attention were provided to 39 indigenous children of limited resources and high risk situations.
2. There were 20 exchange of knowledge meetings with parents about early stimulation at home, alimentary sovereignty, a life free of violence, prevention of child sexual abuse and the rights of identity and education.
3. Through all the year, we had a total of 340 hours of educative sessions with children focused on motor, expression and social skills, and the strengthen of their self-esteem.

Now, it is our duty to maintain or improve the rhythm.

We already started with the nutritional attention and educative sessions since January. We have some kids from the last year and new faces. We believe the children are not the future but the present, they currently are complete persons with their own opinions, dreams and fears, and we must to take them into account and let them participate in the family and social decisions.
