Our biggest project for this time period was creating Art Cards for two Domestic Violence shelters in VT. Our Art Cards are based on Artist Trading Cards which are the size of a playing card and has miniature works of art on one side and contact info on the other. Ours were created with art on one side and words or a quote on the other. This was an incredibly engaging and exciting activity for our participants. We also went out into the local community and had an Art Card Creating Day which was very successful. This type of community event promotes awareness of the issue of Domestic Violence.
We also spent several weeks creating what we call Messy Journal Pages. This is a process that starts with the Morning Page or stream of consciousness style of writing. Then we cover that with white paint so no one can read the writing but some of the words show through. This is a multi-layer process ending with a couple images and a quote that bubbles up from the process.
During the holiday months we spend extra time giving support and helping participants to build a toolbox of self-care practices that they can use on a daily basis.
