Marie Yolaine Occéan, is a mother of three and lives in Pinot I, Crochu. Prior to attending a MTI health education training on lactation, Marie Yolaine did not exclusively breastfeed her children until they were 6 months of age. After learning about the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding, which can help prevent diarrheal diseases, such as Cholera, and can also improve the overall health of infants, Marie decided to experiment exclusive breastfeeding for her youngest child, Esther.
Since the training, Marie has been exclusively breastfeeding Esther, now 8 months old, and is the first in her community to exclusively breastfeed for at least 6 months. As she continues to breastfeed Esther, she is slowly introducing solids to her diet and is seeing improvements in Esther's overall health and growth.
