Unfortunately, we have to date not received any donations for our Music Education projects via GlobalGiving.
We will need to review how we use GlobalGiving and consider how to better attract supporters via this medium.
On a more positive note, we currently operate 7 Guitars For Kids Music Education Programmes for at-risk children in Dublins inner city and have recently completed phase one of a pilot singing group project.
While fundraising remains a major challenge for the Musical Youth Foundation we are doing a lot with very little. The current projects have been making a real difference to the lives of at-risk children, though the lack of funding is frustrating as it prevents us from providing opportunities to more vulnerable children.
Aside from the day to day and long-term impact that our music programmes have, we have been getting some excelleant feedback from our centre and school partners. One story in particular is that of a young boy who was the victim of bullying, was failing academicly and planning to leave school as soon as he turned 16 leaving him more and more isolated.
Our Guitars For Kids programme has given him a renewed confidence which has resulted in a much improved academic performance and a commitment to stay in school and sit is Leaving Cert examinations. Furthermore, he has displayed a natural musical ability which has cast him in a new light with his peers. He is no longer bullied at school or at home and is now even volunteering at one of our other projects, helping the younger children to learn the guitar.
It is evidence like this that keeps us focused on finding ways to raise the finances needed to grow and expand our organisation!
