The Cedar Village Rehab Department offers a comprehensive Driving Assessment Program which provides objective information about a person’s ability to drive safely. Whether someone is recovering from an illness or injury, has completed rehabilitation, or is just concerned about their driving skills, the driving assessment program focuses on helping people determine if they can continue to, or resume driving safely and ways to that they might improve their ability to function behind the wheel.
The first part is an off-road thorough clinical assessment of vision, physical functioning and cognition as it relates to safe driving. The second part is an in-car assessment which evaluates safety behind the wheel. The assessment is conducted by a specially trained Cedar Village occupational therapist. Referrals can be made by physicians, family members, or by the individual driver.
We partner with a local driving school for the in-car assessment in a dually-equipped vehicle.
“I was thankful for the driving assessment team when I wasn’t sure if my parents should still be driving,” said a grateful daughter.
