Summer 2018 Report

By Daniel | Project Liaison

Hi everyone!

Hidden Villa's Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program has been very productive this summer and has had many helping (volunteer) hands helping to ensure its success!

As of September, our CSA program has been able to provide 75% of our annual produce donations to the Community Services Agency of Mountain View through our "Healthy Foods, Healthy Families" partnership. We expect to reach our 100% annual produce donations by the end of the year. On an annual basis, we provide over 45,000 servings (or 5,000lbs) of fresh, organic produce to our low-income community members to ensure accessibility to healthy, local food.

Most recently, Hidden Villa started the "Food for Thought" initiative and we are really excited about its potential to increase awareness around regenerative agriculture and skill building.

We are at a point where Northern California is rich with farmers and ranchers who embody a desire to not only be stewards of a sustainable future for our regional food system, but also to revive and regenerate landscapes in the process. Hidden Villa has been part of the organic/sustainable farming movement from its early days. Our founders, the Duvenecks, brought thought and intention to every part of this place, and the agricultural fields were no different. In the years since, several of us lucky farmers and ranchers have had the opportunity to expand that legacy and introduce generations of Silicon Valley residents to thoughtful, ethical farming.

We've spent the past year thinking about how Hidden Villa fits into today's regional regenerative agricultural scene. We have the honor of growing and producing food for a committed, passionate group of customers who've fallen in love with this place. In order to introduce folks inspired by our work to local, innovative food producers, we've launched an new initiative: Food For Thought.

We envision Food For Thought serving our local regenerative agricultural community, acting as a central place where Silicon Valley residents can see a representation of the innovative work that's being done in local fields and pastures, where conversations become commonplace as we all adapt to our quickly changing world and how it affects the way we cook and eat, and where skills are taught to help people to bring these practices into their lives.
