By Melissa Rancourt | Founder & Chairman, greenlight for girls
In the past few months, we have reached more than 1500 more girls in cities in different parts of the world! The g4g teams in Brussels, Athens, Italy & Massachusetts have been working to bring inspiration and science learning to young budding scientists and engineers - and your help has made this happen!
Biggest news first!
In Athens, we are working with our partner, Herakleidon Museum, and have held a launch event for the girls in the Athens community to announce some amazing news. We are providing free year-wide educational classes on robotics, mathematics and other science and engineering subjects to girls of unemployed families - all because of the incredible team at the Museum. At our recent event, the girls were able to start their contagion for learning as they had a chance to dive into the fun in mathematics - and even had a chance to put their own DNA on a necklace!
In Italy, we had the opportunity to continue our science inspiration to the children of the community of Sondrio. Working with our partners in the area and a very enthusiastic school, we held an event of science fun - including launching coca-cola rockets with the help of a little mentos. The children of course, LOVED it - and they are asking for when we can return.
In Dartmouth, Massachusetts, we continue to give a greenlight for girls in science for our 4th annual event at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth campus. Activities created inside and outside the building keep the girls clamouring for more learning about science, math, engineering and technology.
More big news!
In Brussels, we have held several community events to bring fun science workshops & activities to a large group of diverse students in different areas of the country. One of these activities includes our new event - g4g@work! With the help of partner Cisco, we have brought a special group of girls into their company for a day with loads of hands-on skill building in technology -- which ended with all of them receiving a special certication as a "Cisco Certified Future Engineer".
Keep posted as we continue to go around the world! Where are we going next? Amman, Krakow, London, Alexandria Virginia and much more!
