The purpose of Stage 3 EnviOutcomes (a mentorship program) in Green Channel is to give our participants the opportunity to combine knowledge and experience from Stage 1 and 2 and implement it in Stage 3. Participants were encouraged to come up with creative ideas to help the environment and submit a project proposal to Green Channel. Upon submission one project has been selected for this year's program. The selected project is on Waste Management by Zero Limit Team, called "Mission CleaNation". They are being mentored by Green Channel and have been awarded BDT 50 000 to make their project successful and make a difference for our beautiful Bangladesh. They have just completed the first stage of their project: Environmental Education In Schools - in 2 schools: Penfield School and Junior Laboratory, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Their program included the following:
1. Introduction of the EnviOutcomes Team
2. Ice-breaking with the kids
3. Documentary on why and how to recycle, to become more environmentally friendly
4. Art Competition
5. Teaching kids to plant trees to maintain a greener surrounding
6. Teaching the kids to make things out of thrown household goods in the interactive method while distributing chocolates and stickers
7. Prize distribution for the art competition
8. Closing speech, promising children not to litter again and reminding them to throw plastics and papers separately in the bins provided!
The team will be carrying out the stage 2 of their program by the end of October. In this stage they will collect the wastes gathered at a number of restaurants and homes in Dhaka, and segragate non biodegradable substances from biodegradable ones, after which they will send these items to different recycling plants for recycling.
Applications for EnviOutcomes 2012 will open again in early November.
