Bangladesh continues to face increasing risks of dengue outbreaks, particularly during the monsoon season when mosquito breeding rapidly increases. Children with disabilities are among the most vulnerable groups due to mobility limitations, lack of access to preventive information, and inadequate protection measures at home and in educational institutions. Through this project, PROSHIPS aims to reduce the risk of dengue infection among children with disabilities by promoting awareness and providing mosquito protection support.
During this reporting period, on the dated 15th June 2026 ,PROSHIPS organized an awareness-raising meeting in its auditorium involving parents, caregivers, and students with disabilities. The session focused on improving knowledge and practices related to dengue prevention and mosquito control.
Key discussion topics included in the awareness raising session - Causes and symptoms of dengue fever. Identification and elimination of mosquito breeding sites. Importance of maintaining clean household surroundings. Safe use and maintenance of mosquito nets. Protective measures for children with disabilities during peak mosquito seasons. Early health-seeking behavior in case of dengue symptoms.
The session was conducted using participatory methods to ensure that children with different types of disabilities and their caregivers could actively engage in discussions and learning activities.
Project Outcomes and Impact: Parents and caregivers demonstrated improved understanding of dengue prevention measures. Children with disabilities gained practical knowledge about personal protection against mosquito bites. Families committed to maintaining clean environments and eliminating stagnant water around their homes. Community awareness regarding the increased vulnerability of children with disabilities during dengue outbreaks was strengthened. Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the project's inclusive approach and the planned mosquito net support initiative.
Beneficiary Feedback : Parents shared that the awareness session provided important information that they had not previously received in an accessible format. Several caregivers highlighted that mosquito nets are an essential protective tool for children with disabilities who spend extended periods indoors or require additional care during illness.
Challenges: Limited financial resources restrict the number of vulnerable families that can be reached. Demand for mosquito nets and preventive support exceeds current project capacity.
Next Quarter Plan: Distribute mosquito nets to vulnerable children with disabilities and their families. Conduct additional community awareness sessions in high-risk areas,
Strengthen collaboration with local stakeholders to promote inclusive dengue prevention practices. Continue monitoring beneficiary households and documenting project impact.
Conclusion: The project has successfully increased awareness among children with disabilities and their families regarding dengue prevention and mosquito control measures. Continued donor support will enable PROSHIPS to expand protective interventions and ensure that vulnerable children are better protected from dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.
