Reframing Elder Care in Kenya: Deploying Sporty and Research-Based Approaches.

By Richard Waindi | Project Leader

Dear Donors and Friends,

The third quarter of 2025 was fast and packed with exciting initiatives - thank you for all your kind support! We are delighted to share with you some of the highlights hereunder:

  • August 15, 2025 - the Legends on the Green golf tournament was hosted at Migaa Golf Estate in Kiambu County in the outskirts of Nairobi City. Fourty (40) participants took part in this inaugural tournament hosted in honor of Kenyan sports legends and as a prelude to the IDOP celebations in October. This tournament brought together a wonderful intergenerational and multi-gender crop of golfers, strengthening this facet of healthy ageing.
  • September 7 - 13, 2025 - Our CEO Mr. Richard Waindi had the privilege of attending the 17th Global Conference on Ageing by International Federation on Ageing (IFA) in Cape Town, South Africa. As the CommonAge Kenya Chapter Chairman, Richard was sponsored partly for this confrence by IFA and CommonAge. During the conference Richard presented a paper titled: Social Economic Empowerment in Africa - the Kenyan Perspective. During the CommonAge Annual General Meeting held on the sides of the IFA Global Conference on September 8, 2025, Richard also presented a report on CommonAge Kenya Chapter activies for the year. This was indeed a great milestone for the AgeWatch Africa team.
  • September 30 - October 1, 2025 - The inaugural East African Legends Football Festival was held in Nairobi City and organised by the AgeWatch Africa team. Delegates and team players aged 55+ came in from Tanzania, Uganda and hosts Kenya. This history-making football tournament involving former football greats from the three nations, a thrilling event unlike anything ever witnessed in the region, symbolized unity, resilience, and enduring legacy of sports. The oldest player was from Uganda (83 years old), Tanzania had one 76 year old while Kenya had a 68 year old. Following on the successful 2024 local IDOP version, this regional version will henceforth be an annual advocacy event, and is sure to attract more regional teams from additional East African nations. The AgeWatch Africa team sincerely thanks all our supporters for making this historic milestone possible.
  • October - December 2025 (4th Quarter) - Our partnership with Moi University College, Eldoret is underway and the formalization is expected during this quarter. This will pave way for its implementation beginning in Q1'2026. This vital collaborative initiative will elevate our work locally within the Kenyan care economy and internationally through third party stakeholder engagements in the partnership. We're eager to keep you posted on progress in future.

 In deep gratitude,

 Richard Waindi

Founder & CEO, AgeWatch Africa Foundation.
