The Good Samaritan Fund in Kisiizi Hospital provides help to the poorest members of the surrounding community when they cannot manage or pay for the costs of healthcare. Amoung other treatments, the Fund includes support for patients with long-term chronic illness, patients with mental illness in our Ahumuza centre, the cost of infant milk formula milk for premature babies whose mothers have insufficient breast milk, the cost of insulin for patients with diabetes
Kisiizi Hospital is a Church of Uganda run hospital operating in the rural South-West of the country which is funded almost entirely by patient fees and donations. The rural communities served by the hospital are poor and many of our patients and their families cannot pay fees.
The Good Samaritan Fund run by Kisiizi Hospital is funded by our supporters and donors. It provides help to the poorest members of the surrounding community when they cannot manage the costs of healthcare and may otherwise not seek medical support. Potential beneficiaires are assessed by community social workers working closely with the Principal Nursing Office. Many of the beneficiaries have a long-term illness which makes affordability even further out of reach.
Patients receive medical care they need to enable them to get physically and mentally better. Our mentally ill patients are safer (they often face physical abuse and stigma in their communities) and can be carefully reintegrated into communities when it is safer to do so.
