MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELLING FOR ADOLESCENTS
ACTIVITY REPORT (APRIL TO JUNE 2017)
Awareness Meetings
Awareness raising meetings with adolescents were held at the community and school level. These meetings primarily focused on their day-to-day issues that have to be faced by them effectively with more strength and courage. The counsellor made efforts to identify the problems of the adolescents by noting their shared responses during the awareness meetings.
The awareness meetings conducted in community are listed below:
AREA NO. OF MEETINGS TOTAL ADOLESCENTS
Community 36 947
NB: In view of the summer vacation, awareness meetings were not held at the school level.
Number of cases handled
Once all cases approached the centre and intervened by the counsellor, a total of 8 cases were followed closely.
TOTAL CASES = 8 GIRLS
The adolescents who approached the centre were provided with both counselling and medical help. Detailed assessment, intervention and follow up sessions within the community were held at the centre as per the requirement.
To summarize the total 8 adolescent cases, all 8 cases (100%) were intervened at centre. When categorized, 7 cases (88%) fall under counselling category and 1 case (12%) under psychiatric category. None of the cases fall under advice category which needed any kind of other investigations. Out of the 7 counselling cases, 5 cases (71%) face emotional/behavioural/ personal problems, 2 cases (29%) face family issues.
Adolescents at a secondary stage (age group, 16-22 years) seem to face more problems. The educational level shows 6 school going adolescents, most dropouts are from Std. 7.
8 cases (psychiatric category) from last project are still ongoing in this quarter. They all are taking medical and counselling help in this project also.
