‘Healthy mind, healthy body’—we often hear this, but don’t do much to incorporate it in our lifestyle. According to an English proverb, “A healthy mind leads to a healthy body.” Even if the body is not healthy the effects of this condition will not be permanent provided the mind is not allowed to get affected. Feelings of depression and weakness grow into a disease only when they prolong and rooted in thoughts and feelings for a long time.
For a healthy mind, healthy body, we obviously know we should be both physically and mentally healthy and fit. But most of us seem to be ignoring this simple mantra in today’s times especially when it is most needed during the crisis faced due to the Covid pandemic.
Mental health is imperative for physical health. If the mind is unsullied and pure, it will greatly help in maintaining physical well-being and health.
Given this situation and with AWAG being active on the issue of mental healthcare for over a decade, awareness meetings were conducted with over 700 adolescents from AWAG’s work area in Ahmedabad (Gujarat) to equip them to cope with the prevailing situation.
The meetings were held in communities and mainly focused on their day-to-day issues that have to be faced by them effectively with more strength and courage. The counsellor made efforts to identify the problems of the adolescents by noting their shared responses during the awareness meetings.
The common problems faced by these adolescents were related to academic issues, emotional and family related issues. Those who faced psychiatric problems were provided medical treatment with due support and follow-up.
THE MEETINGS CONCLUDED WITH THE MANTRA....
“FOCUS ON FACTS, REJECT RUMOURS AND THEORIES!”
