Support a Local Girl's Empowerment Leader

GLOW is currently run by a group of Peace Corps volunteers and its dedicated board members and interns. 2-3 volunteers work on various committees, allowing the volunteers to focus their work in one area. The committees are Finance (Grants and Sponsorship), Curriculum Development, Logistics, “Taking GLOW Home”, Recruitment, and Marketing. For the Peace Corps volunteers, GLOW is a “secondary project”, meaning that they devote most of their time to their “primary project” working and conducting projects in schools and organizations. Peace Corps protocol doesn’t allow volunteers in Tbilisi and most of the volunteers involved with GLOW live an average of 3 hours away from Tbilisi. Furthermore, volunteers are already living on a limited stipend so to travel to Tbilisi for meetings with board members, interns, and potential partners is a huge time and financial constraint since there is no room in GLOW’s budget for transportation reimbursement.

To remedy this issue, GLOW early on decided to recruit interns to help the volunteers with language-barrier issues and to attend meetings during the week that the Peace Corps volunteers and board members would be unable to attend. But even with the help of our interns, it became clear that what GLOW Georgia really needed was a project manager to oversee the volunteers and work closely with the board members to help GLOW continue to grow and execute our projects.

That said, GLOW Georgia was not able to generate the support we needed in order to meet our goal and as a result, we are deactivating this project. We hope that one day we will be able to bring a project manager on board to work closely with our team of volunteers, interns, and board members but that time is not now. We greatly appreciate all the support that has been given to us and thank you all for beliving in our mission.
