Dear GlobeMed at UC Supporters,
As the new school year begins, we would like to reach out and thank you for the support and encouragement that you have demonstrated in the past year and since the beginning of our project. In the past several months, six of our members traveled to Mae Sot, Thailand to work directly with our partner organization, Social Action for Women (SAW), to review the progress that we have made, formulate a plan for the future, and build the communication and personal relationships that are so important to a strong partnership. Here in Cincinnati, we are busy recruiting new members and planning many campaigns and advocacy events. We currently have our largest chapter of all time and we expect this to be one of our strongest years yet!
In 2014, we were able to fund and implement the third phase of our Community Health Outreach Program (CHOP) and create a personal and dental hygiene curriculum for our workshops. This phase allowed us to broaden our reach into migrant schools and begin health education at a much younger age. We have been able to directly impact over 1,500 Burmese men, women, and children with our project. All of this would not have been possible without you - our amazing supporters. With your donations, we have been able to complete three projects - each a phase in CHOP - and touch the lives of over 3,000 Burmese migrants. We appreciate the incredible network of supporters we have developed and we tell our partner, Social Action for Women, just how much help we receive in order to implement our projects.
Throughout the next year, we plan to finish fundraising for the fourth phase of CHOP, which will be an extension of all three of our previous phases. We want to hold more workshops for more people and include all the topics previously discussed: reproductive health, preventative health, mental health, and personal/dental hygiene. We hope to directly impact 3,600 Burmese migrants and indirectly impact 6,000 more through the subsequent dissemination of the material covered. This year, our goal is to raise $10,000 for SAW. We hope that you will consider contributing to GlobeMed at UC so that we can continue to work with SAW and implement sustainable, long-term programs that will help make health a possibility for people who currently have limited or no access to heath care. Any amount that you can donate will be greatly appreciated, no matter how small. Since our students work so closely with SAW’s leaders and workers, you can always be assured that your donations are going directly to where they are needed most.
We are so thankful for you, as your support and dedication to us have continued unrelentingly over the past years. We consider ourselves incredibly lucky to have such a generous support network of friends, family, and community members.
