GlobeMed is about half way through the semester and we have been making great progress! We recently hosted a 5K Run on GWU's Mount Vernon Campus that made about $950! Thanks to everyone who came out for the run and congratulations to my very own 15-year old brother who won the race :-)
We have successfully reached our 2010-2011 school year fundraising goal of $15,000 and we have all of you to thank for it! However, our work is not yet done. This past December we surveyed all of the women attending the Huye Health Clinic for Mother & Child Health month in Rwanda, and 100% of the women stressed the need for a waiting room! Thus, we are working to start construction as soon as possible. Not only will the waiting room give the mothers a space for private consultations with nurses, it will also host focus groups and act as an educational arena for the whole Huye community. We are very happy to announce that the first disbursement for this construction will be going out soon, but we still need about $4,000 more to successfully build the waiting room and expand the Women's Cooperative who will benefit from it. And that's where you come in!
This Wednesday, March 16, is GlobalGiving Bonus Day! This is an opportunity for all donations to be matched at 30%!! This only lasts until the $75,000 of matching funds run out, so donating as early in the day as possible secures that your donation will be matched! It's the perfect day to get "more bang for your buck", and also to help us improve the Huye Health Clinic as soon as we can! Attached you'll find a picture of the Cooperative in their current waiting space. You can see that it's pretty close quarters (especially for all of the kids too)! We look forward to the day when we can attach a picture of the newly renovated, bigger, and healthier environment, and we thank you for your generosity and help in this progress!!
