Dear GlobeMed Family and Friends,
We are excited to inform you of some exciting updates from our partner, Kallpa Iquitos, in Peru.
Recently Kallpa Iquitos hosted an event for World AIDS Day within one of the nine neighborhoods. People were able to receive free HIV testing along with fun activities such as volleyball and soccer.
The sexual and reproductive health clinic is up and running and the youth are actively working to help members of the Iquitos community know about this important resource. There are nine sexual health student leaders who have made a plan to work with five families a month in order for the entire community to know about the clinic and services that are now available and raise awareness about sexual health issues.
The youth in Iquitos have been extremely busy with the completion of two new youth centers and a community library. Currently the members of the Youth Network are working on a constitution to formalize their internal rules and then start to have a more solid role within their government.
Right now, Kallpa Iquitos is looking forward to building a park close to a school in one of the neighborhoods where they recently bought land. There are plans in place to have a playground set up within the area next year. Your support has helped both GlobeMed and Kallpa Iquitos immensely. We look forward to your continued support.
In solidarity,
GlobeMed at the University of Rochester
