Muskan (name Changed) is studying in 9th standard at Raza Public School in Bismillah Nagar, Bangalore.
Her father is a fruit vendor and mother a home maker. Her elder sister studies in 10th standard and a younger brother in 5th standard in the same school.
Muskan comes from a large conservative family. She was very quiet and looked very worried. At times she looked very disturbed and disinterested in life. As per Muskan, her parents and grandparents never cared for her and she felt neglected. She did all the household chores and felt that her siblings were being better-taken care of than her.
Many a time Muskan sat quiet and upset in class. Noticing her silence, the facilitator tried speaking to her but failed to get any response as she only nodded her head for all questions. The facilitator realized that Muskan’s family atmosphere was one of the reasons for her disinterest and reserved behaviour. The facilitator decided to help her overcome her problems. He started interacting with Muskan quite often. After months of interaction and involvement in various activities during sessions, Muskan started showing a change in her behaviour. She started assisting the facilitator in activities and helped students where ever needed help.
The facilitator gave her space and time to understand herself. Through the various life skills sessions, Muskan realized that she was not able to take decisions in life and this was holding her back. This was a transformative moment for her. Once she had the realization, she started working on her decision-making skills. The facilitator continued to guide her and to help her to deal with her problems. She felt stronger and started focusing on her dreams.
According to Muskan “Dream a Dream sessions have always helped me better understand myself, my strengths and weaknesses. I always felt that I cannot do anything in life and will struggle for life. However, Dream a Dream helped me realize that it is possible to overcome difficulties and to solve challenges. Since then I have started taking decisions in life. ”
