The Human / Street Dog Conflict: Why Your Help Is Critical Right Now With the Supreme Court decision to remove street dogs from public areas to non existent shelters, pressure is on to focus on humane and scientific solutions to stabilize and lower street dog populations while creating a safe environment for humans. We not only rescue, but we run an Animal Birth Control program in our town, vaccinated dogs to eradicate rabies, and teach our community about dog behavior, bite safety, and more.
The Human / Street Dog Conflict: Why Your Help Is Critical Right Now. 62 million stray dogs live on the streets in India India accounts for 36% of global rabies deaths (W.H.O.) No national programs for mass sterilization No national plan for effective rabies vaccination No comprehensive education on humane interaction and safe post-bite protocol
At DAR, we implement scientifically proven and humane programs to end the conflict, and improve both animal and human welfare and safety; mass sterilization, mass rabies vaccination, street dog rescue, and outreach and education for both children and adults.
Currently, we have stabilized the population with our community, but we need to run annual programs to maintain and even reduce the population. Through our outreach programs, we hope to continue to see real change, where throwing rocks at dogs turns into providing food and water. And where dogs are allowed in the homes instead of left to fend for themselves on the street. We have seen vast improvements over our 18 years of work, but there is still a long way to go, including expanding.
