The fourth CDB mission in Zambia took place from 14 to 22 October 2017 at the Lusaka University
Teaching Hospital. The medical team was composed of 15 professionals:
2 cardiac surgeons
2 cardiologists
3 anesthetists
2 paediatricians
3 nurses
2 perfusionists
16 surgical operations and catheterizations on 11 children were successfully carried out.
In addition, 36 children underwent diagnostic cardiology visits.
The catheterization laboratory (Cath Lab) was used in a systematic way, and Dr. Annoni
was able to do intensive training on the job to the local cardiologist Dr. Mulendele.
The cardiology group has confirmed itself to be very well prepared and Dr. Musuku, cardiologist
and head of Pediatrics at UTH, has shown his professionalism and commitment in the partnership.
Follow-up of the operated children was performed in the previous weeks by the local team, which
produced a report, shared with our doctors.
The local hospital has respected the commitment to purchase consumables and not, for a value
of about 30,000 euros.
An event was organized for the last day of the mission at the Residence of the Italian Ambassador,
to whom the children of previous missions, their families, local doctors, our team and the Ministry
of Health representatives were invited . It was a nice moment of sharing, but also functional to the
communication of our work and useful for strengthening the relationships between the two medical
teams and between MB and local institutions.
