Wheelchairs Stop Turning in Matagalpa Workshop

By rebecca trujillo | directora

This is a report to say goodbye to all our supporters in  Mobility with Dignity Wheelchairs for Children in Matagalpa.  With the COVID problem and the economic situation, the staff of the wheelchair workshop had to decide to close their doors. We are all sad but we believe that we did our best to provide mobility for hundreds of people over the years and provide education on mobility.  with many people in Nicaragua by distributing, repairing, and fitting wheelchairs and other mobility products.

We want to thank all our donors for believing in us and really helping us to reach many different goals.  We reached the goal to provide wheelchairs, and other mobility to children when there were no other possibilities for them to receive a mobility aid. We worked with families to learn how to work with their children in wheelchairs.  We made many creative adaptations to wheelchairs in order to help children with their posture and other special needs in a PC wheelchair.  We also provided many senior citizens and people with chronic illness attain mobility through different aides. We repaired many wheelchairs and created awareness throughout the country of Nicaragua of the needs of people with a wheelchair for more mobility.

Most of all we continued to try to create wheelchairs out of what appeared to be broken pieces of materials.  But now we know that we will no longer be able to get wheelchair parts and receive containers of used wheel chairs we have decided to close.  We provided employment for young people with a handicap to learn how to repair and fit wheelchairs.  We have to leave this work to the government because we are not allowed to develop it so we want to thank you for believing in us and giving us much support and encouragement as we tried new ways to promote mobility, now we have to be mobile and leave this work thank you very much.

Thank you again for your support
