Summary

This project will provide education and training in two secondary schools in the greater Jinja area of southeastern Uganda with the goal of preventing abuse and sexual violence against children. The program will offer specific training to teachers in how to identify possible victims of child abuse and give them with the skills they need to intervene on behalf of the child. Challenge

CCUg conducted a study to assess rates of SGBV among adolescents in 5 districts (Jinja, Mayuge, Luuka, Kamuli and Buyende) in the Busoga sub region between December 2020 and April 2021. Study results showed that 4 out of every 10 (46.9%) school-going adolescent girls in the Busoga sub-region were experiencing Sexual Gender Based Violence and the rate of defilement was 7.6%, attempted rape 2.8%, sexual exploitation 2.1%, forced marriage 1.7%, rape 1.6% among others.

Solution

Community Concerns Uganda Initiative, provides psychosocial support and education to children who have been abused and sensitizes the teachers and parents inorder to ensure protection of these children.

Long-Term Impact

-The project will reach out to two schools and two communities to educate them about dangers of child abuse and sexual Genders based violence.
