On July 19th in the Coopenae meeting room, the Education Committee of the Community Action Alliance in San Ramon, Costa Rica held its second term Awards Ceremony for its scholarship (Beca) students. Nineteen students received vouchers for uniforms, shoes, and school supplies which they need in order to be able to attend school for the remainder of the school year. And because they come from families experiencing extreme poverty, without CAA’s help and generous donations from our GlobalGiving partners, these disadvantaged but highly motivated public high school students would be severely challenged to be able to remain in school. Satisfactory grades and attendance are required for a student’s yearly and multi-year program eligibility. Completing high school opens doors for future vocational and university studies and therefore provides a path out of the generational poverty these students have grown up in. Thank you to our donors for supporting us and helping our students find a way out of poverty through education.
