‘’My name is Fiston and I’m 24 years old. My first contact with New Generation was when I was 10 years old. I was on the street, trying to find something to eat when I came across the founder of New Generation, Mr Dieudonne Nahimana and some team members from the organization, who bought us some food. I was with 5 other street-connected children. The second day, we were all invited to come to the New Generation center. We used to play games, interact with team members, watch something on the screen, and have a meal. We started coming to the center every single day. One fine day, we were asked if any of us would like to go back to school, and I raised my hand.
I studied till Primary 5, and decided to do a vocational training in Mechanics.I also got the opportunity to have good accommodation provided by the organization.
Let me take you back in my story: I used to live with my father, mother and younger brothers when I was small. I used to go to school, but used to stay hungry. My parents couldn’t afford to feed all of us. We also lacked some basic necessities at home. That’s when I decided to go to the streets without letting my family know. I was very small at that time; I can’t remember how old I was.
I now work in the security department of New Generation since April 2022, and I love my work.I’m financially independent, and I live in a rented house. I visit my family very often.I want to save enough money and start building my own house, and would also like to start farming.
Speaking of hobbies, I’ve enjoyed playing football since I was a child. I feel it’s ncecessary to stay physically active’’.
New Generation is happy to see Fiston feeling content with his work, and his enthusiasm to make his dreams a reality is inspiring to all of us.
We are extremely grateful for every single donation we receive, through Street Action, in helping to bring a transformation in the lives of street-connected children in Burundi.
A big thank you to our existing and new supporters!
