Hello everyone,
We are happy to say that now we have 7 families are able to have electricity and light through solar panel installations for 1 year on Kara Tepe refugee camp in Lesvos, Greece.
Kara Tepe refugee camp is a camp for the most vulnerable cases, and the past few months have seen very intense weather conditions for the residents, especially during the winter months.
Families were often inside their homes on the camps, and they were able to have light throughout the long nights. We created a community center with some books, which the residents are now able to read at night inside their homes.
In addition, we have had a special technical installation made by Mohammad who is a refugee with an electrical engineering background, who has an interest in renewable energy. He has been a great help to make the installation process efficient and we are very happy when we coperate together with camp residents on projects.
Now the summer months are approaching with more light, but this does not mean that this light is needed any less. Children still need to read at night, women still need to be safe walking in the dark to get to the bathrooms. Also, during the summer, we see higher influx of refugee arrivals, which means that more people will be needing to depend on the need for light and energy on the camp.
May we remind you that summer time, is also the best time of the year to be able to charge our solar panels and get more sustainable, clean, renwable energy and light!
Thank you for bringing L I G H T to Kara Tepe Camp!
We are grateful.
