It has been a long time since we have given an update on this project, for which our apologies. Since the winter of 2019, a great deal has changed on the island of Lesvos. Following the fire in Moria in September of 2020, Movement on the Ground moved with the refugees to a new camp to continue to support the community. The solar panels surived the fire, and many came with us to the new camp, where they continued to provide continuous power to those in need.
Eventually however, new construction was completed, and we succeeded in transferring the responsbillity of the provision of power to the Greek Camp Management. As a consequence of this, there only remains one primary location where we make great use of the solar panels. This location is our sport clubhouse on top of the hill in the middle of the camp, next to the Cruyff Court. At this location all the residents can freely play sports, participate in football tournaments, or come to watch a match. Many of the programmes for kids in the camp are also serviced from the clubhouse. Thanks to the power provided by the solar panels, warm tea and coffee is available at all times, and the lights stay on.
And the remaining solar panels? With how important the original solar panels were, we can't leave them gathering dust. We have shipped the solar panels to another refugee camp, where we will be installing them as soon as possible, toonce again to benefit those who need it. In this way, your donation continues to benefit refugees around the world. Of course, as soon as the solar panels are installed, we will share this progress with you, the original donors, before we close this project. Thanks to you, we continue to help the people most in need. Thank you so much!
