Hi everyone!
We are happy to update you on how things are going with our solar panels on Kara Tepe.
Due to the summer months and the extreme heat, we have needed to upgrade our solar panels in both the battery as well as the storage capacities. The reason why is because: what happenes when there is extreme heat? Cooling.
The isoboxes where families live on Kara Tepe are not well isolated (even with shading projects that we do together with our volunteers and the community). This means that it gets extremely hot inside the isoboxes and we use electric fans to cool. In addition, people stay inside most of the day sleeping and are up at night when it is cooler. This means that more light is used. We therefore expanded our batter capacity. This was because we saw that the batteries and the storage were at full capacity and malfunctioning. Therefore we were due to upgrade, in order to meet the needs of the 1200 families inside the Kara Tepe CampUs.
I would like to inform everyone that we are looking to apply/create a new project for the expansion of the solar panel project to a nearby camp called the Olive Grove on the island of Lesvos. We have identified that the needs for energy are very great in this area. Please stay tuned with our work to find out more soon!
Best wishes, and thank you, on behalf of the community, to all of you who supported us!
