During the August school holiday, Sports for Change hosted a transformative three-day youth mentorship and leadership camp, bringing together students from secondary school and university transition levels. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the camp provided a safe and nurturing environment where young people could learn, reflect, heal, and build meaningful connections.
The camp focused on personal development, leadership, life skills, and preparing students for future success. Through interactive mentorship sessions, participants explored topics such as self-awareness, attachment styles, healthy relationships, decision-making, and personal responsibility. These conversations encouraged students to better understand themselves and develop the confidence to navigate life's challenges.
A highlight of the camp was an educational visit to Kenya Works, where students learned about talent development, financial management, career preparation, and the importance of planning for their future. Many participants described the experience as eye-opening and inspiring, giving them practical tools and motivation to pursue their goals.
Beyond the formal learning sessions, the camp created opportunities for healing and community building. During a special evening reflection session, students openly shared personal experiences, challenges, and aspirations. The honesty and encouragement shown by their peers reminded many that they are not alone and that seeking support is a sign of strength.
The camp experience was enriched by shared meals, comfortable accommodation, recreational activities, laughter, and evening bonfires that fostered friendship and belonging. These moments helped strengthen the Sports for Change family and created lasting memories for the participants.
As one student shared:
"This camp was a beautiful and eye-opening experience. I am leaving with lessons and memories that I will carry with me for a long time. The mentorship, learning, laughter, and support have prepared me for the next chapter of my life."
Special encouragement was given to our Form Four candidates as they prepare for their national examinations, while students transitioning to university received guidance on managing their time, finances, relationships, and responsibilities as they begin a new stage of independence.
On behalf of all the beneficiaries, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the donors and supporters who made this camp possible. Your investment is helping young people gain confidence, build resilience, develop leadership skills, and make positive choices for their future.
