I sat for my final primary exams last year and passed very well but my parents could not afford to take me to the school I had dreamt for and work so hard to be admitted to. I cried when they told me I will join a day school. A day school is for students for dont attain marks for good borading school. This not what I worked so hard for. The school I joined was quite far. I left before dawn and walked for an hour and half and got back when late in the evening. Tired from walking ,I had not energy left for to do my home work. I felt quite discouraged.
One day a miracle happened. Just out of nowhere, I received a letter of sponsorship from Sports for Change. I doubted this was real until it happened. I met with the founder Shiku Waithaka day before going to school. She bought for me everything I needed, everything including night dress, it was my first ever night dress to own. I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was too much to take in. No one in my family or even my teachers couldnt believe my luck was real. My parents are poor,I have 3 brothers and we all work to help my parents buy food and take care of other things.Having a scholarship was such a relieve and blessing to my whole family.
The following day Shiku and my parents took me to school . When I saw the school gate, I told Shiku, “ This is exactly what I saw in my dreams one day “ I was laughing by then, my heart was singing I was just happy and celebrating my miracle silently.
Shiku did everything the school needed, she paid school ,paid for my uniform. I changed and looked completely new and different. I felt very different, I felt energized,I felt encouraged. I was in my dream school. I wanted to shouted for the whole world to hear. I was just so excited and thankful.
My next dream is to be a math”s teacher. I love and admire teachers . They do such an incredible jobs.
I would still be walking 2 hours a day and missing my homework if Sports For Change did not come to my rescue. I want everyone who donate their time and money to Sports for Change know that it mean a lot to us. Iam already change. You are the reason Iam in my dream school. My life is bright. You are my miracle.
