Happy fall from ETM!
The new 2017-18 school year is off to a terrific start! Because of your generous support, ETM’s partner school program is serving a record 30,000 students at 57 schools in all five boroughs of New York City. These deserving children are receiving quality music instruction that develops cognitive and emotional intelligence that increases their chances for success in life. Many of our students are receiving exposure to music for the first time! Across New York City, ETM music teachers are dedicated to working with our students. To prepare teachers for classroom success, music teacher training is embedded in the heart of ETM's model. In August, music teachers attended the annual ETM Academy, a robust two-week training period aimed at strengthening our teachers’ abilities to educate and provide our students with in-depth music skills and knowledge.
The training was designed to introduce ETM’s model and curriculum philosophy and address teachers' need in the classroom, including teaching in an urban environment and incorporating music technology into instruction. Guest facilitators were brought in to deepen workshop content. These experts in the music education field and authorities on specialized topics led sessions covering topics such as music and movement in the classroom.
After ETM Academy one music teacher shared, “This is one of the best sessions I've been a part of in a long while. The facilitators were so great and fun! I learned a lot and look forward to the rest of training.” Feedback like this reinforces the importance of making sure our teachers are best prepared to offer our students the tools to use music as a core subject as a means to improve academic achievement and social and emotional abilities.
Music teacher training is a cornerstone of ETM’s model, and your support ensures our partner school students are being taught by the highest quality music teachers—educators who have access to an abundance of resources and support. While all sessions during ETM Academy were intended to benefit our teachers, the ultimate beneficiaries are the 30,000 children who will receive quality music instruction during the 2017-18 school year. Thank you for supporting our model and for providing our students with a means to gain a brighter future!
