Fall 2020 Update for School Music Education

By Adam Arango | Director of Development

This year, ETM kicks off the fall semester by announcing our reach into 50 partner schools for school year 2020-21. We are thankful for the hundreds of donors that stepped up to help us fight the $180M in budget cuts by the Department of Education to NYC public schools.

The lives of NYC public school children right now is riddled with uncertainty, continuous disruption, and fear of the coronavirus. Education Through Music is partnering with school principals to make sure that music stays in the lives of tens of thousands of children throughout the pandemic - whether it be remote, hybrid, or in-person learning. We know music can be the cornerstone of joy, learning, and development in education. Now is the time to invest in the arts more than ever.

With creativity, hard work, and resourcefulness, our teachers more than rose to the challenges in front of them. As ETM teacher Brittany Harris shared, “Teaching remotely has been a huge learning experience, but what’s teaching if you aren’t challenged with something new every year?” Bringing her work into students’ homes showed Brittany the power of families coming together through music. “Music has always been important, but I think now everyone can truly see what it does.”

By giving to Education Through Music, you are making unique, meaningful learning possible for thousands of students—students who would otherwise have little or no access to music education. Thank you for driving equity and access for so many young learners. Don’t forget to share this report with a family member or friend to let them know the incredible difference supporting ETM can make!
