Diaper distribution has been a significant part of LPPWDFI's project "Give Hope from Home" it is through this activity that we get to meet members of the disability sector whose parents are trying hard to make ends meet and address the needs of their children with disabilities. This is why the Las Pinas Persons with disability Federation Inc is very grateful to GlobalGiving for the funding support for this very important program. For this quarter we want to highlight the following children with special needs who were given a months supply of diapers from different barangays in Las Pinas.

The Story of Chloe

The child was born at 31 weeks (premature). Despite the regular monthly prenatal check-up of the mother, she suffered Placental Abruption causing lack of oxygen for the baby and danger for the life of both child and mother. The child showed disability in mobility (walking) at the age of 1 yr. old and not able to walk at all even at age 2.

The child was diagnosed with cerebral palsy but until age 7 still had no therapy because the doctor said that an MRI should be done first to be able to know the type of therapy or intervention that should be given to the child. Due to lack of financial  capacity because MRI is somehow costly and the family cannot afford for the procedure. Only the head of the family is working and the job is not stable (delivery rider) only, meaning no delivery no income.

The Story of Tamara,

At the age of 2 months, the child caught colds and cough and eventually developed to pneumonia. When the child was about to be released from hospital when she manifested seizure. This caused her to develop Cerebral Meningitis which eventually progressed to cerebral palsy. Since then, the child have to take maintenance medicine for seizure.

At present, the child is on wheelchair, non-verbal (with slight facial reaction, like can smile)  and consumes 3-5 diapers each day to avoid sores and infection.

The Story of Denise

Aged 9 years old and with cerebral palsy, Denise cannot walk without assistance and cannot speak to convey her thoughts. Her parents separated when she was 7 years old and she and her younger sister were left to the care of her father, who sells rice cakes as a means of living. This is why the free 1 month supply of  diapers given to Denise by LPPWDFI through GlobalGiving is indeed a great help to hr father who serves as her and her sister's ole guardian.

Diapers are essential for many children with disabilities because they safeguard dignity, hygiene, and comfort, while easing the caregiving burden for families. In the Philippines, where inclusive care is a growing priority, diapers help ensure children with mobility, cognitive, or medical challenges can participate in daily life without stigma or health risks.
