Welcome Biscotti

By Kim Mosiman | Executive Director

Last week, we welcomed this handsome guy into our care. Meet Biscotti (aka Scotty).

Biscotti and two miniature horses were left behind when the property they lived on was sold. The previous owner initially said she would come back for them, but eventually admitted she had nowhere for them to go and signed them over to the new property owners.

Biscotti wouldn't allow anyone to touch him and had begun pushing the minis around, making it difficult to safely care for all three horses. Concerned for their well-being, the new owners reached out to their veterinarian, who referred them to Sound Equine Options.

With the help of an incredible team of volunteers, we carefully developed a safe plan. We set up heavy panels to create a secure handling area, patiently guided Biscotti into the enclosure, and then into the trailer. After a few anxious moments, he loaded into our trailer and we headed to our intake center.

Once he had a chance to settle in, Biscotti surprised us. Not only did he allow us to put a halter on him—he lowered his nose into it for us. He quietly let us pick up his front feet, although he's still a little uncertain about his hind feet. Those small moments tell us there's likely a well-handled horse hiding underneath years without consistent human interaction.

Biscotti needs time, patience, consistent handling, and training. He also needs all the basics every horse deserves: vaccinations, farrier care, a fecal exam, deworming, dental work, and veterinary evaluation of a small growth on his nose.

Thank you to everyone who makes it possible for us to be there for forgotten horses like Biscotti, giving them the time, care, and second chance they deserve.
