Dear Friend and Partner,
Greetings from Gaba Hope for Kids.
In Gaba, many girls still grow up believing that menstruation is something to hide. They are taught to whisper about it. To stay home. To feel ashamed of a natural part of life.
This shame is stopping girls from learning. It is stopping them from dreaming.
At Gaba Hope for Kids, we are working every day to end menstrual shame.
What Menstrual Shame Looks Like:
- A girl misses 3 to 5 days of school every month because she has no pad
- A girl sits at the back of the class, afraid her uniform will stain
- A girl drops out completely because she cannot cope every month
- A girl is laughed at by boys because she does not have what she needs
- A girl grows up thinking her body is a problem
Our Approach to Ending It:
*1. We Provide Dignity:*
Reusable pads, underwear, and soap so every girl can stay clean, safe, and confident.
*2. We Provide Knowledge:*
We teach girls about their bodies, about menstruation, and about hygiene. When a girl understands her body, shame goes away.
*3. We Provide Safe Spaces:*
We create private places for girls to wash, change, and ask questions freely without fear or judgment.
*4. We Involve Boys and Parents:*
We talk to boys so they support, not shame. We talk to parents so they encourage their daughters to stay in school.
*5. We Give Girls Skills:*
We train girls to make reusable pads. When a girl can make her own pads, she feels powerful, not ashamed. She can also teach others.
What Ending Shame Means:
- Girls come to school every day
- Girls speak confidently about their health
- Girls support each other instead of hiding
- Girls stay in school and focus on their future
Ending menstrual shame is not just about pads. It is about dignity. It is about saying to a girl, your body is normal, your education matters, your future matters.
