Dear Donors,
Regards from Gram Vikas Trust!
“Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
- Mahatma Gandhi
Gram Vikas Trust (GVT) has moved to a next level, engaging the parents and community of the project villages. It is a big challenge for the community to believe that education is the only mean to change their socio-economic conditions. The community is strongly believe in their rigid culture, they have also developed some of the society’s so called culture and spiritual practices. The tribal community is withdrawing their own culture and social practices and adopting society’s practices and spend their time and money for the same which is not their culture.
Due to this situation in the community parents do not take care of the children in sending schools regularly. Most of the girls remain at home and do not attend schools. They remain home and help in house hold work. In most of the villages during the festivals season many children remain home, especially the girls, and we do not able to aware them as it is the spiritual things for them. Community strongly believes in spiritual things and not give importance to education.
Though it is sensitive part of the society to deal with, some of the parents and community leaders support in engaging parents. To sensitize the parents towards education, importance of regular attendance in school and parents role in education. Our community mobilizer support parents in organizing different community level activities, with the support of parents. Street meeting, door to door visit of parents of irregular children, parents visit with the community leaders or supportive parents are the ongoing activities to engage parents and community members to increase the understanding towards education.
GVT believes that changing the mindset of the parents is quite difficult but it the only way for the betterment of the society and the girls future, because continuously giving the materials or money will not change in their habit. Though it is the long way to go with may challenges but not impossible.
Your valuable suggestions and feedback will help us to support the girls for their better future.
