Keep Moving!!

By Jignesh Christi | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

Greetings from Gram Vikas Trust, Bharuch.

“Life is like riding a bicycle, to keep your balance you must keep moving.”

-Albert Einstein

Summer is going to end, and monsoon will start soon. Like the same, the vacation will be complete soon for both primary and higher secondary schools. The long summer vacation is crucial time for both the teachers and students. In this long vacation, children mostly do not touch the books, read or some education related activities are initiated by children or their parents. So the children forgets all the lessons and other teaching-learning process. The school is also closed for almost 35 days during this vacation and no one takes care of it, so it becomes very much dirty with dust and other things. Parents also have a belief that in first week the teachers will do nothing, and only make their children cleaning school. Such reasons make the parents and students think not to visit the school in first week.

To mark some changes in the mindset of the community, Gram Vikas Trust has initiated a small campaign in over 70 schools. The campaign is called as “Halla Bol”, students and some of the village youth, parents and other village members are actively getting involved. In this Halla Bol Campaign different activities have been started, such school cleaning, rally by the children and parents, announcement of the school reopening dates and time, a small visit of all the children of the school to inform them about the dates and time of the school reopen.

Such activities has make the parents think on the importance of education and importance of regular attendance. The school staff are also getting involved, parents and other leaders, such as PRI head, SMC head and volunteers, which helps to make the campaign successful. GVT is aiming that, in the absence of the GVT or other organization in such remote villages the parents and community should take the responsibilities and support the education of children.

GVT’s main focus is to make the girl child’s future bright through make the people and parents understand the importance of education, who are not only meant for household work.
