Distance are easier, you need to step once..
Payal and Pankti (name changed) are best friends from the very young age, both are living in the same village. From class 1st to 8th they studied together, both are bright in studies. After completing 8th standard both wished to take admission in 9th standard but their parents were not ready to send them for further studies because the village is quite interior from the main town, nearly 17 km from the main city. The community people has to walk almost 6 km to touch the road, and the nearby school is almost 5.5 km.
So most of the children do not attend school after 8th standard. Parents also do not wish to send their children to school as the school is far, for the safety issue also because of less motivation towards the education. They mostly engaged in the farming activities, and cattle grazing.
In the month of June-2016, when the school reopened, the primary school teachers come to know about these two girls that they haven’t take admission in school and their parents are not ready for their further studies. The school teacher contacted their parents and try to convince them, as both the girls are good in studies. The teacher tried to convince them but they were worried about the distance and also what is going to make changes in their lives if they study?
The school teacher have idea that Gram Vikas Trust (GVT) is providing bicycles to the needy students for the higher education. And they contacted GVT for help for Payal and Pankti.
One of our field officer visited both the parents and school teachers to understand the issue to support them. The school was reopened and almost one month was passed so it was difficult to get the admission, but somehow both the girls got admission in a government school in 9th standard.
Payal and Pankti are enjoying their school life, and the company of each other. The parents are still worried about the distance but the bicycles have made their road and distance easier.
Thanks for your continuous support, and do help GVT to support the needy ones.
