Dear donors, friends and supporters, thanks a ton for your valuable support to help this rural poor tribal families, GVT really appreciate your generosity.

Believe in yourself is the first secret to success!

As mentioned earlier GVT works in the rural tribal areas of Bharuch district in the state of Gujarat since 2001. We have seen many issues which force the families and especially the girls who don’t get or complete the higher education, higher education here means 5^th or 8^th standards. As in the villages there is schools up to 5^th or 8^th standards due to total numbers of the students and other Government rules and regulations. After completing 5^th or 8^th the students have to travel to the nearby villages and this is the most affecting reason for families not to study further of their children specially the girl child. Most of them take admission but do not go regularly to the schools become irregular or get dropped out.

GVT has seen many girls who have continued their studies after providing the bicycles, irregularity in the school and dropping out has reduced. Which has been remarkable change GVT has made till date. Though GVT has not able to achieve the target, there are many girls still not getting the education and remains home after the village level schooling.

I would like to share one of the best examples of a girl child. Reshma studying in 8^th standard. She lives in a village called Gumanpura. In this village there is a school up to 5^th standard, after that the students have to travel to the nearby village at least 5km. Most of the students get dropped out after completing 5^th standard. The school teachers contacted GVT as many students are not getting the education after 5^th standard.

Reshma got the bicycle in 6^th standard, she is now in 8^th standard, while interacting with her, she shared that she is very lucky that GVT has provided bicycle to her. She told that my career might end up if I did not receive the bicycle, bicycle will change my future.

Success is a Journey...

Arpita is a student who had got benefit of bicycle and books for the study under the education support programme by Gram Vikas Trust.

She is coming from Tribal community and having very low income at her family as her father is working as farmer and mother is a housewife. The village called “Padal” almost 25 km from Jhagadia block and around 47 km away from Bharuch district. The village is having primary school up to 8^th class and after completing primary school she got admission in Diwan Dhanji Shah High School Jhagadia as there is no nearby highschool. She faced the problem of going to school hence she has to walk almost 5 km every day to catch the bus, sometime she missed the bus and have to stay at home by walking back 5 km to home. She was not able concentrate on study because of long distance walking as she got tired of walking and not able to do homework other hand she has to help mother for house work. She was almost neglecting going to school but there was happy news came to her that she got bicycle when she was studying in 9^th class. She was too much happy with this gift other hand her friends also got bicycle which is motivated to her for going school with friends. Parents also feel safe to send the girls in school as they go and come with their friends.

The gift has made her successful as she used to go to school every day with friends even she had no bunk single class. She used to reach on time and easily get the bus form Vakhatpara, started concentrate on study and regular doing homework and even she always helps her mother at home as she come on time to home. She is so happy with Gram Vikas Trust for such support providing useful help for such family.

She is in 11th standard now, in few months her examination will come, she is working hard for the best result she can get.

Empowering Girls Education

Never stop doing little things for others. Sometimes those little things occupy the biggest part of their hearts.

Gram Vikas Trust (GVT) working for the betterment of the communities in Bharuch district (Gujarat, India) since 2001. Education was the main focus of GVT from it’s inception. While working with different stakeholders we realized that education is the vast field and there are many areas we need to cover while talking about education and willing to work in this field.

GVT is working on the different aspects of education, to improve its quality. Giving Para Teacher to the Government schools where there are less teachers, different motivational activities, providing scholarship to the needy students, giving educational materials and uniforms and so on. Giving bicycles to very interior village girls is also our major step in supporting the field of education.

The villages we work in are really very interior and poor, majority of people are Schedule Tribes. Mostly in the small villages, they have schools up to 5^th standards, and for further studies they have to visit the nearby schools. There is less transportation facilities, and also the roads are not maintain well. So they have to walk miles from fields and other kachcha roads to reach schools.

There are many girls, who gets drop out from the school or become very irregular as they have to walk long to reach school and come back home. They get tired and do not get time for other things like playing, studying etc. Parents also don’t allow the girls to walk and attend school as for safety reasons. There are numbers of reasons like these, and the students get drop out from the schools, become irregular or cannot give proper attention in studies.

We have given hundreds of bicycles to girls of different interior villages, the continuous observation and follow up of these girls, have shown the best result. We have observed that the irregularity and the drop-out rates are decreasing. There are many girls from interior villages who faces the same problem. We have identified these girls, and have started giving bicycles and other needful things to these girls as we received donations from you all. Still there are many girls who are really in need of the educational things required.

We really appreciate the donors who have supported these poor girls, you still can support for their bright future.
