In September 2018, we distributed weatherHYDEs in response to earthquakes in Lombok, Indonesia. The island of Lombok was hit by 5 powerful earthquakes and aftershocks from July 29, 2018 - August 19, 2018. In partnership with the ENDRI Foundation, Property Guru, UPS, the Embassy of Israel and Laura O’Neill and her friends, we identified locations on the island with a need for more durable shelter for earthquake victims.
There was a strong need for weatherHYDEs in Lingsar and Sembalun. Lingsar, located in West Lombok, was especially hit hard twice and many families lost their homes. To stay safe during aftershocks, residents slept outside under tarpaulin, avoiding any large structures
Mrs. Fitriyani was sleeping when the earthquake hit Lingsar, Lombok. She ran out of her house and survived the powerful tremor unharmed. However, her house was severely damaged and inhabitable. Before receiving a weatherHYDE, her family was sleeping outside in the cold -- unsure of when they could repair their home.
Mrs. Fitriyani and 157 other people slept safe and warm in their weatherHYDEs thanks to donors like you.
Although this campaign did not directly support the Lombok earthquake, this an example of the work you support. Thank you for partnering with us to gift a home to the homeless.
Thanks,
Prasoon and the billionBricks team
