A Story from a School Bag

By Anser Javed | Executive Director

A Story from a School Bag

On a cold winter morning, 9-year-old Samuel walked into school with an empty bag.

He sat quietly in the back of the class, watching others open their books. When the teacher asked the class to read, he lowered his eyes. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to learn. He simply didn’t have the books.

A few weeks later, everything changed.

Samuel received a complete set of textbooks through Chopan Trust. The next day, he came early to school. This time, his bag was not empty. He opened his books with excitement, followed each lesson, and even raised his hand to read aloud.

His teacher later shared, “It was not just books we gave him. We gave him confidence.”

Your support made this possible.

Project Overview

The “Give a Child a Future” project focuses on providing essential textbooks to children studying in low-cost community schools. These children come from families who struggle to meet daily needs, making educational resources like books a distant priority.

Without textbooks, learning remains incomplete. With them, a child gains access to knowledge, confidence, and hope.

Activities Implemented

During this reporting period, Chopan Trust carried out the following activities:

  • Textbook Distribution Drives:
School bags filled with complete sets of textbooks were distributed to children in partner schools, especially targeting the most vulnerable families.

  • Identification of Beneficiaries:
Schools helped identify children who lacked basic learning materials, ensuring support reached those most in need.

  • Coordination with Schools:
Close collaboration with school leaders ensured that the right books aligned with the curriculum were provided.

  • Follow-up Visits:
Regular visits were conducted to observe how children were using the books and to assess improvements in classroom participation.

Use of Funds

Funds raised through GlobalGiving have been utilized to support:

  • Printing and procurement of textbooks

  • Packing and distribution of school bags

  • Logistics and transportation to reach schools

  • Coordination and monitoring activities

Every contribution has directly placed books into the hands of a child who needed them.

Impact Achieved

  • Hundreds of children received their own textbooks

  • Increased classroom participation and engagement

  • Improved ability to follow lessons and complete homework

  • Boost in confidence among students who previously felt left behind

Teachers reported noticeable improvement in reading habits and overall learning when children had access to their own books.

Looking Ahead

The need remains great. Many children are still waiting for their first set of books.

Chopan Trust aims to:

  • Provide textbooks to 3,000 children

  • Continue reaching underserved schools and communities

  • Ensure that no child sits in a classroom without the tools to learn

Because of your generosity, children are no longer sitting silently without books. They are reading, learning, and stepping forward with confidence.

An empty school bag once held back a child’s future.
Today, because of you, it carries hope.
