Your gift will empower women and girls in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Venezuela, Peru and Brazil through access to quality education. Women and girls in Latin America often miss out on education due to high costs and the expectation to prioritise family duties, making them more vulnerable to exploitation. We aim to support 1,000 women and girls across 6 countries in Latin America with quality vocational education leading to good work and long-term exit from poverty.
In Latin America, girls and women in rural and marginalised urban areas often face financial instability and cultural expectations to do unpaid domestic work and care for their families. These barriers leave them without opportunities of continuing with proper education. Without it, women cannot find a stable job and may enter prostitution or be married off at a younger age. This also makes them more likely to take on exploitative work, where they may be underpaid or at risk of abuse.
We work with each partner in Latin America according to their individual needs developing programmes that are suited to the local labour market. This includes a school from nursery to high-school, high quality vocational trining courses such as beautician, hospitality, and digital skills. Through these courses, women gain new job skills, develop confidence and can make informed choices. Once they graduate, women are prepared for a new career that allows them to be financially independent.
Education is a decisive tool for the development of women and girls. Providing them with quality education and the skills to find good work not only improves their own well-being, but that of her family and community. This is reflected on women becoming financially independent, with an understanding of their own value and agency. They are more likely to educate their own daughters and break the cycle of poverty for their families.
