July is here and this means that the kids at the HTDC orphanage are now done with school and starting to enjoy their long summer break.
The last event in the school year was a graduation ceremony for four of the kids who've just finished with kindergarten. Bodlison, Bodlina, Kenson and Schnaidine all celebrated their graduation with a small party at school and will be moving onto elementary school in September.
But before then all the kids are free to enjoy their summer vacation, like other kids all over the world.
This means that the orphanage staff have their hands full over the next couple of months!
The staff already have a lot of work to do, after all cooking and washing clothes for 27 kids is already a full time job. So, to help keep the kids occupied we’re planning a full schedule of activities for them during the holidays.
Some of these activities will include fun filled days out, such as trips to a local museum, the zoo and also to Haiti’s beautiful mountains. These trips will give the kids a special treat while also giving the staff a chance to focus on their chores without the young ones being underfoot.
Hiring vehicles for these trips can be expensive though. That's why we’re still raising funds to buy the orphanage its own vehicle even though school’s out for the summer.
Of course, when the kids return to school in September the vehicle will also be used to drive the kids to and from school. And when not being used for trips, and the daily school run, the orphanage still plan to hire out the vehicle to earn an income.
We still need to raise over $10,000 to buy the orphanage a vehicle, but we’re not discouraged by this.
This is because many of you have already made incredibly generous donations to this cause. What’s more, this July 15 GlobalGiving will be helping us get even closer by matching donations to this project by an incredible 50%.
Matching will start at 9am Eastern Time (or 1pm in the UK) and donations up to $1,000 (or £600) per donor will be matched while funds remain. So, please consider making a gift on July 15, and please also spread the word about this incredible opportunity.
As always, if you ever have any queries about how we’re using your donation, please don’t hesitate to email Andy@IDVolunteers.org. I would be delighted to hear from you.
