The good news is...schools are being built! Construction is underway on an 8 classroom school in Bie, and the completion of 13 classrooms in Benguela, begun by the government in 2014. These two schools combined will provide access to education for over 3600 children in Angola. A RISE team visited the locations in November and documented the progress of the projects, taking photos and meeting with community leaders. They witnessed the excitement of the children and their families to finally have a school in their village.
The school at Njele in Bie will be completed in February. and the school at Cambanda in Benguela will be completed in March. Both schools will be turned over to the communities and the Ministry of Education, who will hire and pay the teachers. The registration process will begin in January and RISE will track the enrollment, attendance and retention of the students.
Several sites have been identified to receive schools in 2018. Our next school project is slated for the village of Sope in Benguela. We hope to begin construction this spring. We appreciate your support of RISE and the work we are doing. There is so much more to be done. Can we count on your support to help get 100 MORE kids in school?
