We grow our own in Global Girls and this summer, two young ladies who grew up participating in our after school, Saturday and summer camps, will lead the Youth Performing Arts Camp! Kenya, a 21-year-old college sophomore and Angela Gibson, a 20-year-old college sophomore contacted me earlier this year offering their services and expertise. “Growing up in Global Girls, you just know that you have to give back. I am so ready!”, said Angela during her interview. Angela has accepted the full-time position of Program/Operations Manager starting late August. She continues her studies at Chicago State University in September.
50 girls will sharpen their moral compass, learn emotional regulation, grow as dancers, singers and actresses during the seven-week intensive camp. Over 70% are returning for another summer with Global Girls saying, “…this is our home away from home. I love being with my friends and especially getting on stage dancing and acting. I can never get enough.”
All staff this summer – administrators, teaching artists and assistant teaching artists rose through the Global Girls ranks starting as youth participants. Stay tuned over the summer for program updates, pictures and performances. Also, watch out for a Global Girls branch coming to cities and countries near you! Yep, we are on the move!
