On Oct 17 (that’s this Wednesday!), Global Giving will match all donations made through GlobalGiving.org, up to $1,000 per donor, at 30%. This is your opportunity to maximize your support for the education of young village girls in northern Burkina Faso.
Our girls are on the march to educational success! Our primary school girls did better this year on national exams than in any previous year, with 89.1% qualifying to continue on to middle school (compared with 63% of their peers region-wide). And, with your support, we just sent 300 more 6-year old village girls, in 13 new villages, to primary school this school year. As you know, their lambs, with their parents’ help in raising them, will support these girls for their remaining 12 years of schooling.
Generous donors have provided scholarships to post secondary girls this year, enabling seven of them to go on to university, two to attend nursing school, two to attend midwifery school and nine to attend primary school teacher training.
According to a 2004 report by Barbara Herz and Gene Sperling, members of the Council on Foreign Relations, investing in girls’ education delivers huge returns for economic growth, political participation, women’s health, smaller and more sustainable families, and disease prevention. It provides among the highest returns around when it comes to goals ranging from greater food security to more robust economic growth.
Our Burkinabe village parents are embracing these realities and need only our initial support to help launch their daughters on to their educational paths!
